The Legal Aid Board has today kick-started it Anti-Election Violence Campaign with a football match against the African Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire at the SS Camp Field at Regent, in Freetown.
The campaign is dedicated to ensuring free, fair and peaceful elections through legal education on the electoral laws and moreover ensuring citizens engage with the processes and take ownership of same.
‘This is the second such campaign by the Board since its inception in May 2015’ the Executive Director of the Legal Aid Board, Madam Fatmata Claire Carlton- Hanciles said while speaking to both teams before the kick off. ‘We will use the lessons of the 2018 Elections, to ensure the forthcoming elections are more credible and peaceful’, she added.
After an entertaining first and second half, the Legal Aid Board carried the day by defeating the AYV Media Empire by one goal to nil.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the AYV Media Empire, Ambassador Anthony Navo Junior, declared LAB goal keeper, Izaac Koroma man of the match.
Counsel Ibrahim Bangura bagged the only goal of the game.
And this is how the Legal Aid Board kicked off its ‘Anti-Election Violence Campaign’ to a winning start.
The stage is now set for series of Town Hall Meetings and Community Outreach Events in educating people on the Electoral Laws.
